About GHATSI

GHATSI is a Government of Ghana initiative led by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture under the Feed Ghana Program, delivered in public-private partnership with FarmMate LTD as the Official Private Sector Implementing Partner. The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, launched it at Anloga on 15 September 2026.

Ghana grows tomatoes it cannot keep, then imports tomatoes it cannot grow in time. GHATSI sets out to change that: more tomatoes grown in every season, less of the harvest lost after it leaves the farm, more of it processed in Ghana, and less reliance on imports.

GHATSI scales up the model FarmMate has built since 2022: contracted out-growers, farmer support repaid from the harvest, aggregation, processing and a guaranteed market.

How GHATSI Works

Organised Farmers
Farmers grow under contract through the FarmMate Out-Grower Scheme, with staggered planting across the year.
Farmer Enhancement
Inputs, technical support and crop insurance, repaid from the harvest, through CFEP.
Irrigated Land
Land near water, prepared for irrigated farming, so tomatoes can grow in the dry season.
Processing and Storage
Processing and storage capacity, so glut harvests become tomato puree instead of waste.
Market Access
A guaranteed buyer for the harvest, and Ghanaian tomatoes on Ghanaian shelves in every season.
Skills and Jobs
Young people trained through the FarmMate Apprenticeship Program and national service.

FarmMate’s Role

FarmMate delivers GHATSI on the ground, working with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture under a MOFA-FarmMate Memorandum of Understanding.
Organising Production
We contract and support farmers, plan planting and supervise farms to harvest.
